Why is toughened glass dearer than standard glass?
Toughened glass is heated and rapidly cooled so it is four to five times stronger and shatters into blunt granules. It cannot be cut afterwards, so every pane is made to exact measure off site, adding processing and lead time. That is why it runs roughly double a plain float pane of the same size.
Can you match the glass in an old Hobart window?
