Glass repair cost in Hobart.
Whether it is a smashed window, a fogged double-glazed unit or a new shower screen, the first question is always the same: what will it cost? Here is a plain 2026 guide to glass repair and glazing prices in Hobart, what moves them, and a few worked examples from real jobs.
What you’ll pay in Hobart in 2026.
Glass pricing sounds mysterious, but it comes down to a few clear factors. The biggest is the glass type. Ordinary float glass is the cheapest; toughened and laminated safety glass cost more because of the extra processing; and double-glazed insulated units cost the most because they are two panes sealed with a spacer and often a coating. On top of that, size and thickness, whether the location legally needs safety glass, how easy the opening is to reach, and how fast you need it all shift the final number.
Quick reference ranges.
- Emergency board-up: $150 to $350 to secure an opening same day
- Clear single window re-glaze: $180 to $450 supplied and fitted
- Toughened safety glass pane: $350 to $750
- Double-glazed unit replacement: $450 to $900 per unit
- Framed shower screen: $700 to $1,400; frameless $1,200 to $2,800
- Glass splashback: $600 to $1,300 per kitchen run
- Cut-to-size mirror: $120 to $300 per square metre

The safety-glass factor.
One thing that catches Hobart homeowners out is the safety-glass requirement. Under AS 1288, glass in doors, side panels, low windows and wet areas must be Grade A safety glass, toughened or laminated. A lot of older Battery Point, North Hobart and Sandy Bay homes still have plain glass in those spots. When a glazier replaces such a pane properly, they replace to the current standard, which costs more than plain float but is the only legal and safe option. Our emergency glass repair always replaces to standard.
A worked example.
A Glenorchy home, single broken lounge window roughly 1100 x 800 in a timber sash, broken accidentally. Same-day board-up to secure it: around $180. Permanent replacement in toughened safety glass (it is a large low pane): around $480. Total around $660, most of which is usually claimable on contents insurance once the excess is met. If the owner chose to upgrade that window to double glazing while it was out, add roughly $400 to $600 for the insulated unit.
